Robert Kiyosaki

Author of 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'

Robert Kiyosaki is an investor, businessman, self-help author and motivational speaker. He studied in America, joined the Marine Corps and fought in the Vietnam war. Kiyosaki is best known for his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series of motivational books and other material. He has written 18 books which combined have sold over 26 million copies. He has created the "Cashflow" board games for adults and children and has a series of "Rich Dad" audio cassettes.

Kiyosaki was born and raised in Hawaii. After moving to New York and graduating from college, he served in the Marine Corps as a helicopter gunship pilot during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Air Medal. Kiyosaki left the Marine Corps and worked as a salesman for the Xerox Corporation. In 1977, Kiyosaki started a company that specialized in importing nylon and Velcro "surfer" wallets, which grew into a moderate success and it was here that Kiyosaki learned most of his business experience.

Around 1996–1997 he formed Cashflow Technologies, Inc. and developed a board game to educate people financially, while at the same time keeping it entertaining. Kiyosaki is best known for his series of books based on the rich dad and poor dad characters. Kiyosaki writes the books in a very easy to read method where financial novices can remain entertained and at the same time learn. The Rich Dad series consists of books, games and audio CDs all based on the theme of financial freedom and escaping the rat race.

As well as creating a loyal group of followers of his teachings, Kiyosaki has has his share of critics. Some critics have accused him of giving novice investors false hope and encouraging them to make financially risky investment decisions. Robert Kiyosaki does however stress that the first step to financial freedom is to educate yourself, by attending seminars and seeking professional help and advice. Before committing to any financial decision you must first do your due diligence.

Robert Kiyosaki has been able to retire by the age of 47 although he does remain involved with the Rich Dad educational company, his goal to spread the importance of financial literacy worldwide.
