Starting a home based business could be your best chance of escaping the Rat Race. It might be a scary concept at first, but there are many advantages to starting a home based business and it’s not as difficult as you might think either. It has never been simpler to own your own business than what it is right now. With simply an internet connection and a phone line you have the tools to do business with people all over the world, day or night. There are millions of people around the globe today that run their own home businesses and every day thousands more people start their own businesses. If you’re looking to start a home business but don’t know what might be suitable for you then keep reading this page as a little further down this there is a list of possible home business ideas.
To make serious money. Probably the single biggest reason people start a home based business is money. People that struggle to make ends meet at the end of the month by working a day job realise they can achieve their financial dreams by starting their own businesses. It’s not easy to gain financial freedom working for a company, but by steadily building a business from home it is possible to make obscene amounts of money.
To gain personal freedom. One of the most enticing reasons for starting a home based business is the opportunity to take complete control of your life. As a home business owner, you don’t have to answer to somebody else - you are your own boss. You can work where you want and when you want. You don’t have to ask permission to take leave - you can take time off when you feel like you need a break. The obvious caution though is that without adequate time management skills and discipline it is very easy to NOT work on your business as often as you should be but the beauty is it’s your choice.
To be with the family. Many entrepreneurs decide to start their home based to be able to spend more quality time at home with the family. Working from home means you don’t have travel to work which means more time that you can spend with loved ones. Spouses can also help with various aspects of the business in either a full time role or part time and children have the opportunity to learn about business first hand which will help them later in life too.
To take advantage of tax benefits. Not many people know that there are many more benefits of working from home apart from having the luxury of working from home itself. Yes, believe it or not you can claim almost every single cent you spend on your home based business. Some possible deductions include the business portion (area of your house you use it for doing home based business) of your home. Check with your local tax laws first but you may be able to claim on Mortgage Interest, Rent, Electricity, Telephone, Internet, Expenses for maintenance and repair, Property Taxes and Home Insurance. You may also be entitled to claim expenses from using a vehicle for your business, including gas, insurance, and depreciation. Consult a qualified accountant for a careful evaluation of what you can and cannot claim from using your home office.
Not enjoying your current job. Everyday millions of people reluctantly wake up in the morning and trudge their way into work. Every week day it’s the same old thing – the alarm goes off at 6am, they get up have a shower, have some breakfast then sit in traffic for 2 hours. They get into work but hate every minute that they’re there; they watch the clock desperately waiting for 5pm when they can pack up and go home. There is no real hope or opportunity for career growth as to them it’s just a job, a means to make the money to pay for their basic monthly expenses. These people are trapped in the proverbial “Rat Race” and it’s the desire to escape the rat race that more and more people are starting home based businesses.
Pension worries. Now more than ever people are concerned about their pensions. People work for years and if they’re wise contribute to different pension schemes but even so it is becoming more and more apparent that this won’t be enough to retire on. Because the majority of pension schemes are linked to either share portfolios or property portfolios it means that if there is a sudden slump in the economy, like we are experiencing right now, pensions suffer. Some people unfortunately have not even had the foresight from the beginning to set money aside for their pension and so now realise they need to do something so they can retire in a few years. Depending on the type of business, starting a home based business can be the perfect way to build residual income that will continue to flow into your bank account even when you retire.
Something to fill your time – a hobby. Another good reason some people are starting home businesses is to do what they already enjoy doing and to make some money from it. These people don’t necessarily do it for the money, they do it because they love what they do – it’s a hobby for them. Hobbies can be anything from knitting to fishing, from sport to sciences or even racing remote control cars. The business could be run on a part time basis simple to fill spare time with something they are passionate about.
Create a website and profit from your skills / hobbies. Create a website (like this one) on something you know about and make money from it. Anyone with motivation can do it. Become an information entrepreneur - an "infopreneur." Basically, make money from what you know. Web users search for information, for solutions. They seek what you know. Give it to them. Convert your knowledge into in-demand Content. Your topical content ranks high at the Search Engines, attracting free, targeted visitors. Basically, these future customers "meet you" at your site. Convert these warm, willing-to-buy visitors into income. 1) Start with AdSense -- the foundation for monetizing an information site 2) Sprinkle in some well-chosen, high-quality affiliate programs. "finder relationships" with local businesses and services (make money from people you refer.)
Buying and selling Products. The basic principles of business, no matter what size, are quite simple. You can either buy something merchandise at a low price and sell it for a profit, or you can provide a valuable service that you can charge for. As for a home based business, if you know a specific niche market and understand the value of certain items, you are in the fortunate position where you can spot bargain sales. These bargains could be found anywhere including car boot sales, eBay, charity shops or jumble yard sales. You can also buy products cheaper if you buy in bulk from certain stores. By selling this cheaply bought merchandise for more than you paid for it means you are in profit and more importantly means you’re in business. You can sell your products just about anywhere, but one of the most popular places today would be eBay.
Network Marketing. Network Marketing or MLM as it is sometimes referred to, is one of the most common home based businesses opportunity to get into. Unfortunately network marketing seems to be mistakenly dismissed as pyramid schemes, yet if you actually research the industry you will see it is an incredibly fair and legal system. With network marketing, you get paid for introducing people to certain products and or services and depending on the compensation plan of the company, you get paid when these people introduce new customers and so on.

Trading forex. The Forex market is a non-stop cash market where currencies of nations are traded. "Forex" stands for foreign exchange and it's also known as FX. In a forex trade, you buy one currency while at the same time selling another. The foreign exchange market is an over-the-counter market. There are many advantages to trading Forex such as: 1.) Low Start-up – You can start with as LOW as $50, 2.) Huge Market - $3 TRILLION traded around the world every day, 3.)24/5 – Non-stop action, 24 hours a day 5 days per week (Monday through Friday). Entrepreneurship is NOT Evil - by Michael Pound
Entrepreneurship is not about working on your own. It's not necessarily about making money. It is absolutely notabout letting work take over your life. It's about turning what excites you in life into capital, so you can do more of it and move forward with it. The drudgery and clock-watching are a terrible betrayal of that universal, inborn entrepreneurial spirit.
